ПЕРЕДУМОВИ ПОЯВИ ПЕРІОДИЧНОГО ВИДАННЯ "ВАРТОВА БАШТА"

Анотація

В с т у п . Розглянуто передумови виникнення журналу "Вартова Башта", яке регулярно видається понад століття та сьогодні поширює учення релігійної організації Свідків Єгови сотнями мов мільйонними тиражами. Зокрема, у дослідженні простежено період духовного зростання та становлення Чарльза Тейза Рассела як незалежного релігійного діяча та засновника цього впізнаваного нині періодичного видання.

М е т о д и . Для досягнення результатів дослідження було застосовано такі наукові методи: історичний, казуальний, компаративний і біографічний.

Р е з у л ь т а т и . Визначено, що початком розриву гармонійної співпраці редакторів газети "Вісник ранку" Нельсона Барбура та Чарльза Рассела було розчарування в очікувані вознесіння вірних на небеса навесні 1878 року. Висвітле- но, що Чарльз Рассел пояснив пережите розчарування тим, що вознесіння потрібно сприймати не як одномоментну подію, а як тривалий процес. З'ясовано, що Нельсон Барбур не погодився з інтерпретацією Рассела, і згодом конфлікт між ними проявився у ставленні до класичної протестантської доктрини "Замісного викупу". Нельсон Барбур оголосив ідею Замісного викупу небіблійною, натомість Чарльз Рассел вважав цю доктрину чи не найважливішою концепцією, фундаментом християнської віри. Зазначено, що одним із виражень конфлікту між ними були протилежні оцінки проведення Пророчої конференції, присвяченої темі премілленіального погляду на другий прихід Христа. Згодом Чарльз Рассел усвідомив потребу у створенні окремого періодичного видання. Цей учинок переріс до відкритих звинувачень Нельсона Барбура на адресу свого молодшого колеги.

В и с н о в к и . Розкрито, що всі ці події стали випробуванням релігійної віри Чарльза Рассела і водночас призвели до його зростання як незалежного релігійного лідера та початку видання "Вартової Башти". Відзначено, що в цьому конфлікті Рассел проявив водночас твердість своїх релігійних переконань та повагу до свого старшого колеги.Також у цих подіях викристалізувалася його релігійна ідентичність і, незважаючи на те, що погляди Чарльза Рассела чимало відрізнялись від віровчень традиційних протестантських церков США, періодичне видання "Вартова Башта" особливим чином закцентовувало увагу на важливості доктрини Замісного викупу як центрального пункту християнської віри.
